Memorial Biography

Neil was much loved by all his family and friends. Harsh words and bad moods were very foreign to him; instead generosity of spirit and calm fortitude were his hallmarks. Neil is the father of Lynnette and Peter, and was the husband of Edna (1930/11-2020/01). He is the grandfather of Jacqui, Kim, Craig, Thomas and Mathew, and the great-grandfather of Wesley, Poppy, Georgia, Hayden, and Isabel. He grew up in Palmerston North, New Zealand where he met Edna. He lived since about 1975 in Hamilton, New Zealand, and before that (1969-75) in Sydney, Australia. He worked as an aircraft engineer, lastly for Pacific Aerospace Corporation. Besides his family, Neil had a lifetime devotion to all things mechanical - particularly aeroplanes, motor bikes, and cars of vintage character. His pride and joy for many years was his Alfa Romeo GT of approximately 1968 vintage. One of his biggest regrets was selling his Riley, pictured in the photo gallery. Pursuing his love of aeroplanes he made many models right up until his last days, hung from the ceiling of his bedroom. He played badminton for many years and then croquet. He also played guitar and sang country music winning a competition at one time. In the last few months of his life he took up playing (electric) piano.
